Maria Rivera becomes first Latina Mayor of Central Falls & of Rhode Island, plus the first Puerto Rican Latina mayor in the United States.

David Morales wins election for House District 7 to become first Mexican-American elected official in Rhode Island. At the age of 22, he is also the youngest Latino state legislator in the country.

When Sabina Matos became Lieutenant Governor of Rhode Island, she was the first Dominican American elected to statewide office in the United States. She also holds the distinction of being the first Black statewide officeholder in Rhode Island. Matos was reelected for a full 4-year term in 2023.
