Nuestras Raíces: The Latino Oral History Project of RI would like to offer you an opportunity to share your personal story or any memory and participate in our Community Story Collecting Initiative.

The Latino Oral History Project of Rhode Island would like to offer you an opportunity to share an oral memoir—either your own or that of someone you may choose to interview and submit to this project. We are looking for 300-500 word excerpts that capture when, why and how you or your narrator immigrated to the U.S. and then to Rhode Island. Send excerpts, preferably using E-Mail, which will allow us to easily transfer your contributions to this web-site. Click here to send an E-Mail to Marta V. When you send your contribution, please be sure to provide background information such as, the name and background of the narrator (you can use pseudonyms, if your narrator requests it); the date of the interview and the name and location of the person who conducted it; and a brief summary of the context of the excerpt(s) you have chosen. Include your name, address and telephone number, plus an e-mail address where you can be contacted if we have any questions. Please note that we will contact you to ask you to fill out a copy of the Release Form for yourself or for each narrator.
The final oral history project will become a part of the Latino Archives of Rhode Island. We would also like to have any digital photos of artifacts such as personal correspondence, immigration papers, photos, business papers, etc. to include in the archives.

Where to Begin: There is no recipe for a story. It can be simple and it can be complicated. For inspiration, click here to download a PDF and take a look at some of the questions to get you started. You might want to write something out on a separate piece of paper. Keep in mind, the preferred word count max is 500 words.
